  1. The client ships us the perfume bottle sample or 3D prototype dimensions and tells us about the placement or shows the how he wants to put the bottle inside the box;
  2. Our packaging engineer measures and analyzes the perfume bottle shape and size. etc, and develops the molded pulp insert 3D design;
  3. Our sales team sends the molded pulp 3D drawing to clients for approval and makes improvements if clients prefer;
  4. We produce an ABS 3D molded pulp insert prototype;
  5. Produce the perfume box sample with a size that perfectly fits the 3D molded pulp insert;

1. Design stage
Send us an empty perfume glass bottle sample (with cap) or the 3D file of your bottle. Our packaging engineers will design a suitable molded pulp structure based on the bottle sample and the inner dimensions of your custom perfume box. We will then provide the 3D design files of the pulp tray for your review so you can check the appearance, proportions, and how the bottle sits in the tray.

2. Prototype & sample stage
Once the design is approved, we can produce a 3D plastic prototype of the molded pulp tray together with a complete custom perfume gift box sample and ship them to you for physical confirmation.

3. Mass production
After sample approval, we proceed with the production of the molded pulp tray tooling and start bulk manufacturing.

This process ensures a precise, secure, and visually appealing fit for your perfume bottle inside the custom packaging.

Yes. During the sampling stage, we can provide both a 3D plastic prototype of the molded pulp insert and a complete perfume gift box sample for approval.

The molded pulp insert prototype and the complete box sample can be shipped to you by air for physical evaluation and approval. We only proceed with the production tooling for the molded pulp insert after the prototype and complete packaging sample have been approved.

Typical sample costs are:

  • 3D plastic prototype of molded pulp insert: approximately USD 30–60 per piece, depending mainly on the insert size. Larger inserts generally require more material and therefore cost more.
  • Complete gift box sample: approximately USD 30–60 per design, depending on the box structure, finishing and sampling processes. More complex structures and multiple finishing techniques may increase the sample cost.
  • Complete sampling lead time: approximately 4–6 days for the 3D plastic insert prototype and complete gift box sample.

This sampling process allows you to check the bottle fit, insert structure, box dimensions, appearance and overall packaging experience before production tooling is made.

Dimensional accuracy starts before the production mold is manufactured.

Our packaging engineers design the molded pulp insert according to the specific perfume bottle shape and the selected molding process, such as wet-pressed molding or premium dry-pressed molding.

Molded pulp naturally experiences some shrinkage during production. Therefore, our engineers take the expected shrinkage of the selected manufacturing process into account when developing the insert and tooling. Depending on the molding process, the internal cavity may be adjusted by approximately 0.5–1.0 mm to achieve the required finished dimensions and bottle fit.

After the mold is approved and the first production order is completed and stabilized, we properly store the production tooling for future repeat orders.

For customers with annual repeat orders, we can continue to retain the mold. If there are no repeat orders, we generally retain the tooling for approximately 2–3 years.

Proper tooling storage and controlled production conditions help maintain stable dimensions and consistency between production batches.

The cost of a custom molded pulp production mold mainly depends on two factors: the molding process and the insert size.

Different molded pulp processes require different tooling configurations:

  • Wet-pressed molded pulp: generally has the highest tooling cost because it may require multiple tooling components, such as forming molds and mesh molds.
  • Premium dry-pressed molded pulp: generally has a lower tooling cost than wet pressing.
  • Standard dry-pressed molded pulp: typically has the lowest tooling cost among these three processes.

The larger the molded pulp insert, the higher the tooling cost is likely to be.

For example, for a perfume insert measuring approximately 275 × 190 × 35 mm, the typical tooling cost may be:
