Learn Custom Molded Pulp Cosmetic Inserts Production Process

Sustainable Molded Pulp Insert for Premium Skincare Packaging

This custom molded pulp insert was developed for a skincare gift set containing multiple cosmetic products. The insert is manufactured from sugarcane bagasse pulp, a renewable plant fiber material that offers excellent sustainability performance while maintaining a premium presentation.

Compared with traditional EVA foam inserts and plastic thermoformed trays, molded pulp inserts provide a biodegradable and compostable packaging solution that helps brands reduce plastic usage and meet growing environmental requirements.

The cavity structure is custom-designed to securely hold each product while creating an organized and attractive presentation inside the packaging box.

Key Features

  • Made from renewable sugarcane bagasse fiber
  • Plastic-free and environmentally friendly
  • Biodegradable and compostable
  • Smooth wet press surface finish
  • Custom cavity design based on product shapes
  • Suitable for cosmetics, skincare, perfume and gift packaging
  • Excellent replacement for EVA foam and PET blister trays
  • Compatible with rigid boxes and folding cartons

Wet Press Molded Pulp Manufacturing Process

This molded pulp insert is produced using a wet press molding process.

The wet press process creates:

  • Smooth premium appearance
  • Precise cavity dimensions
  • Consistent wall thickness
  • Better presentation quality
  • Enhanced branding perception

The visible side of the insert features a smooth surface, while the reverse side displays a fine molded fiber texture. Average wall thickness is approximately 0.8mm, making it lightweight while maintaining sufficient structural strength.

One-Stop Sustainable Packaging Solution

Unlike suppliers that only manufacture molded pulp trays, Major Custom Packaging provides complete packaging development services.

We design and manufacture:

Our engineering team develops the molded pulp insert and outer packaging simultaneously to ensure perfect fit, product protection, and premium presentation.

For many customers, we produce both the custom gift box sample and the 3D molded pulp sample together, allowing the complete packaging system to be evaluated before tooling investment.

FAQ of Custom Packaging Ordering

Can you design a custom molded pulp tray for my skincare products?

Yes, our packaging engineers can design custom molded pulp trays together with paper gift boxes for your skincare products.

You can simply share the box type, structure, and size you are looking for. Our engineering team will then prepare a 3D prototype design for your review first.

Once the 3D design is approved, we can proceed with producing physical samples, including digitally printed paper boxes and matching 3d molded pulp inserts sample, and arrange air shipment to you for evaluation.

Yes, our custom molded pulp tray is strong enough to protect your serum glass bottles during transportation.

It is made from fiber pulp material, which provides excellent cushioning and helps significantly reduce vibration and impact during shipping.

When designing the structure of the molded pulp tray, our experienced engineers always take protection performance into full consideration, not just the appearance.

In fact, we don’t only design molded pulp trays for serum glass bottles. We also design and produce pulp packaging for much larger and heavier items, such as wine bottles, and they can be safely and securely protected during transportation.

Yes, absolutely. We can produce your molded pulp trays using the wet-pressed process.

Wet press molded pulp has a very smooth surface on the top side, and a fine mesh texture on the back, which comes from the fiber dewatering process. It is usually used for premium-grade inner trays where appearance and touch feel are more important.

Alternatively, we can also use premium dry-pressed molded pulp. Compared to wet press, dry press is more cost-effective. The top surface is also very smooth, but the back side has a slightly rougher texture compared to wet press.

Before making the tooling for molded pulp trays, our packaging engineers will first design a 3D structural file based on your product dimensions and packaging requirements.

Based on this 3D design, we will then produce a 3D plastic prototype sample. This prototype will have the same structure and dimensions as the final molded pulp tray.

However, since the 3D sample is made from plastic material, while the final pulp tray is made from fiber pulp, the materials are different. During the dewatering and drying process, the final molded pulp tray may experience slight shrinkage. As a result, there may be minor dimensional differences between the 3D sample and the final pulp tray, which can affect the tightness when fitting the product.

But no need to worry—our experienced packaging engineers will fully take this into account during mold adjustment and mass production. Our final goal is always to ensure the bulk molded pulp trays fit your products perfectly, provide strong protection, and present your products in the best way possible.
